Una propuesta de alternativas de relocalización
The University of Chile is a public university. Member of the faculty of Architecture and Urban Affairs (who will direct the project) at the University of Chile have ample experience doing research and publishing on issues related to vulnerability to risks and disasters. The faculty has the equipment and infrastructure to carry out the project, e.g. a library, IT labs, data bases, and GPS.
The project has three main objectives:
- To analyze the social impact on the population due to the displacement, lost of life, and changes in life styles caused by the eruption of the Chaitén Volcano.
- To evaluate different alternatives for the relocation of the population of the city of Chaitén to environments similar to the original.
- To consolidate a community of practice with experience in the reduction of vulnerability to disasters and the management of risks and how these matters relate to territorial organization and environmental management.
Jorge Ortiz is the Project Investigator. Jorge Ortiz has a Ph.D. in Population Geography and Territorial Management. He is Professor of History and Geography. He is a member of the faculty in the Department of Geography and in the Department of Architecture and Urban Affairs at the University of Chile. He has participated (as PI or Co-PI) in various research projects on social and urban problems in cities of Chile connected with processes of economic development and globalization of the economy. He is the author of numerous scholarly publications.
