The DRR Program at FIU hosted a Regional Launch of the 2011 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction “Revealing Risk, Redefining Development” on May 31st, 2011 in Miami, Fl. This landmark publication is a major initiative of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) that contributes to the achievement of the Hyogo Framework of Action (HFA) through monitoring risk patterns, trends and progress in disaster risk reduction, while offering guidance and suggestions to governments and non-governmental actors alike, on how they can, together, reduce disaster risk. The event reached out to, inter alia national/local governments, UN/non-governmental organizations, Latin American and European Chambers of Commerce, journalists, private sectors, and academic institutions.
