Testing of Transitional Shelters in Haiti
From October 10 to 13, 2011, Roy Liu-Marques, a research scientist from the FIU-International Hurricane Research Center, and Walter Conklin, the manager of the FIU Laboratory for Wind Engineering Research, visited Haiti to gather information on transitional shelters being constructed in the earthquake-affected country in order to test similar models in the research center’s wind laboratory.
DRR Strategy Nepal
FIU has continued collaborating, from a distance, with the DRR office in Nepal, which involves both the U.S. Embassy and USAID, providing them with current information on both DRR and risk transfer as well as identifying strategic partners within the U.S. private sector that could be interested in establishing an enabling environment for a broad insurance market in Nepal.
